REGISTRATION OPEN FOR MORE MAGAZINE/FITNESS MAGAZINE WOMEN’S HALF-MARATHON Over 10,000 Women Expected for 10th Anniversary Race in Central Park on April 14th
NEW YORK, N.Y., (January 24, 2012) – More and FITNESS magazines announced today that registration is open for the 2013 More Magazine/Fitness Magazine Women’s Half-Marathon, celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the event.
The 13.1-mile race is open to women runners and walkers of all ages. Registration is accepted online at http://www.nyrr.org/races-and-events/more-magazine-fitness-magazine-womens-half-marathon-2013.To enhance the race-day experience for all, the size of the event will be capped, so participants are encouraged to register early.
“This race started ten years ago with just over 2,000 runners and is now the largest women’s-only half-marathon in the country,” says More Editor-in-Chief, Lesley Jane Seymour. “This race has become the destination for women from all over the country—first time runners, elite athletes, women who have overcome an illness—to come together to challenge themselves to reach new goals—and cross that finish line!”
More and FITNESS are co-hosting the event with the New York Road Runners and are expecting more than 15,000 runners and spectators in New York’s Central Park on April 14, 2013. Athleta and Skechers are the presenting sponsors, Duane Reade, Oakley and Tonalin are the official product sponsors, Hole in the Wall Gang is the charitable partner, CARE is the Expo sponsor and The Better Show is the official media partner.
“Every year, women from all over the U.S. and the world flock to this race for a fun, empowering run,” says Fitness Editor-in Chief, Betty Wong. “I look forward to sharing the course with these fit and fierce females and having a blast celebrating our tenth anniversary!”
The event weekend will kick off on April 12th and April 13th with a two-day Health & Wellness Expo at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th Street between 6th and 7th), where women can participate in various health-oriented activities, pick up their runners’ bags and bibs and meet magazine editors and running experts. The Expo is free to the public and will feature health screenings, fitness seminars, food and product sampling, shopping, sweepstakes and more. On race day, supporters and spectators are welcome to visit the Sponsor Pavilion to enjoy live music, complimentary samples and sweepstakes.
“The incredible partnership with More magazine and FITNESS magazine is one that we are very thankful for and continually inspired by,” says Mary Wittenberg, President and CEO of New York Road Runners. “Together we have been able to motivate hundreds of thousands of women to run, move and make a meaningful commitment to their health and well-being. We are thrilled to celebrate the tenth running of this extraordinary event and look forward to seeing the excitement of these women as they cross both the start and finish lines in April.”
More and FITNESS also invite all half-marathon participants to raise money for Hole in the Wall Gang, a non-profit, residential summer camp and year-round center serving children and their families coping with cancer and other serious illnesses and conditions. Women will be given the option to make a donation when registering for the event. Registrants can also opt to run on behalf of Team Hole in The Wall to raise money directly for the charity.
Registrants can also donate to CARE, a leading humanitarian organization that empowers women around the world to help end global poverty.
