Are you ready for a tough workout? This 50-minute playlist that I created is filled with music that will hopefully get you motivated on your next ride or run. As usual—there is a mixture of newer tunes with a few 90s gems. Enjoy!

 

  • Counting Stars: OneRepublic

OneRepublic is a band from Colorado who wrote this super-catchy song that makes my head bop to the beat.

 

  • Out of My League: Fitz & The Tantrums

Today one of my favorite students told me this was her favorite song from this list. Fitz & The Tantrums are a Los Angeles band that writes fun tunes that will make you want to sing along.

  • Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You): Kelly Clarkson

This has to be one of my favorite songs of all time. Seriously—Kelly Clarkson just sings the hell out of it.

 

  • Dangerous: Big Data

I got this directly from the Internet—“Big Data is a paranoid electronic music project from the Internet.’ Not sure what that means but Dangerous has a bouncy energy I love.

 

  • Rope: Foo Fighters

Whenever I want to set the volume to “11”—I put on some Foos!

 

  • Holiday: Green Day

This is my favorite song from American Idiot!

 

  • Get Off This: Cracker

When I want to reminisce about young & free in the 90s—I play songs like this one.

 

  • My Moon My Man: Feist

Where is Feist these days? I miss her!

 

  • Americano: Lady Gaga

I loves me some Gaga and this live version is fun to watch!

 

  • I Heard I Had: Dear Rouge

This is a new band from Vancouver and this song makes me want to dance around the room.

 

  • Stupid Girl: Garbage

Shirley Manson is my spirit animal.

 

  • Get Higher: Black Grape

This song is wonderfully subversive and fun.

 

  • Pets: Pornos for Pyros

I wish I could find the original video for this song as I recall it being freaky and fun.

Today I want to start off with a song that every once in a while becomes an earworm in my brain. It’s just so damn catchy and fun that I can’t think of a reason to NOT play it.

Anyhoo—I hope you like this mix today of the old and new. This is a 50-minute interval ride of varying in tempo and mood from song to song. Hope you enjoy it!

 

  • That’s Not My Name: The Ting Tings

I dare you to NOT sing along to the chorus—it’s damn near impossible!

 

  • Pon de Replay: Rhianna

Rhianna is a new obsession for me. I have been downloading her music like crazy lately.

  • Fixed to Ruin: Sam Roberts

Sam Roberts has been very popular in Canada and looks like he might be taking off here as well. This is from his last album and is my favorite from him by far.

 

  • Runnin’ Down a Dream: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

The video for this song still kind of freaks me out but I love playing it super loud!

 

  • Zombie: The Cranberries

The Cranberries bring out my inner “Irish Badass” to the fore.

 

  • Gold Digger: Kanye West (with Jamie Foxx)

I played this on Sunday morning and one of my students said “What was that Ray Charles song you played today?” I told him it was actually Jamie Foxx singing and that there was a BIG difference between the “clean” and “explicit” version.

 

  • Supermassive Black Hole: Muse

This was the first hit from Muse that made me pay attention to them.

 

  • Glory and Gore: Lorde

Some people get annoyed by Lorde but I think she is really interesting.

 

  • It’s All Been Done: Barenaked Ladies

Funny Canadians signing catchy music brings out the “happy” in me.

 

  • The Passenger: Iggy Pop

“Singing La La La La La La La!” (Don’t mind me while I dance around my apartment right now…)

 

  • Pony: Ginuwine

Outside of the annoying spelling of his name—this song is so much fun to play in class and the metaphors to silly to not enjoy thoroughly.

 

  • Porcelain: Moby

My favorite DJ in the whole wide world (Dave Morey) would play this song on KFOG all of the time and said that it went “right to the pleasure center” of his brain. Not a bad way to end a ride—right?

I have been hearing all about the Pure Yoga and the “sweaty mix” of their PXT classes and in this issue they feature moves from PXT that utilizes gliding disks and hand weights to make you strong and lean. Me likey!

Spring means outdoor running again (yay!) so check out this guide on the best sneakers for all kinds of activities.

Personally I have yet to try a mud run but apparently most of the participants are women (go figure!) Muderella trainer Miriam Wasmund offers tips on surviving your first time running with the muddy folks.

  • “Crank Up the Cardio” Jim Karas’ newest book The Ultimate Diet Revolution will give you great ideas on how to use High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) that will get you healthy in record time.
  • “Pretty Amazing” The latest beauty gear that will help troublesome skin woes, whiten teeth, and more.
