Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!
The summer is flying by here and I am just starting to get back into my fitness groove. In fact, I taught one of my best classes in my entire life this morning and it made me feel more like my old self again. (Dad would have been so proud!)

On Sundays I teach three back-to-back classes (two spins and core training) and by the time that last cool down is over– I am finished both mentally and physically. It’s not the workout (really) that is so taxing on my body. (I modify so I can instruct & correct my students.)
However, being “on” and inspirational for three straight hours while also dealing with the usual nonsense that can happen while teaching a class is SO tiring at times.
For example the mic not working or students arguing over “the fan” or the AC being broken AGAIN—grrrr.
Truthfully, many Sundays before I teach that third class (10:30 am core training) a part of me wants to run away and go home. Just to sit down and think alone for a minute. (Guess I am truly an introvert!)
And with all of the stresses of the past year (and today in particular)–I had the “Run Margo Run” thought.
That’s when I decided the best strategy would be to “fake it ‘til you feel good” and give them more of my energy and attention than normal. To work them harder and better and just pretend it was the greatest time in the world. (Really!)
Guess what? It worked! By the time we were done one of the students yelled out “you mean it’s over?” We were all having so much fun and I mixed it up sufficiently that I felt good about what I was doing and they felt an hour fly by in a workout flash. Win/win, people!

Book Vs Movie Podcast News: Margo Porras of She’s Nacho Mama’s Blog and I co-host the “Book Vs. Movie” podcast (that you can subscribe to via iTunes at this link) and we just recorded our first year anniversary episode with the 1986 classic Stand By Me which you can check out on the link below. We had a blast recording it. (Spoiler alert—we loved both!)
Have you seen the film lately? I had on reaction to it when I was a teenager and another one as an adult. In fact, the grownup Margo wants to adopt all of the characters and raise them as her own just to protect them from their home lives. Sort of a Dowager Countess set loose in the Stephen King world. Anyhoo-let me know what you about it.
With our next episode we are taking on Jaws (yes—it was a book first!) Margo and I are also planning our next few episodes so if there are any books & movies you want us to cover—feel free to comment below!
Periscope-ing my Life Away: Do y’all know about the new app Periscope which allows you to broadcast live from your phone just about anything you want?
As long as you can aim your camera at what you want to show (and, of course, have Wi-Fi access) your own little cable/satellite/channel is yours and good to go.
For many years I have developed my You Tube channel and dutifully uploaded videos every single Sunday. However, it was becoming too time consuming and I was losing my mojo with it.
With Periscope though I can just turn on my phone and start chatting away. I am going to post some of my favorite post-workout tips, motivational speeches, magazine reviews, ideas for playlists and even giveaways with it very soon. Don’t know where to find me on it? Well just download the app and look for @BrooklynFitChik (Note the spelling!) I will keep my best videos in my profile plus I promise to follow any of you looking to build your numbers.
Part of the fun with Periscope is that you can interact with your friends in real time as they leave messages for you while you are live broadcasting. I checked out a red carpet event recently and it was a hoot to watch it live!
