There has been some major stress in my life recently both wonderful and terrible but I can honestly say my focus and attitude remains intact and I am committed to being your one-stop shop for fitness news, pop culture snark and best of all—giveaways!

This week you can enter to win an item I received from a totally rad goodie bag from the amazing Athleta fashion show.

Want to hear more? Well, let’s dive into my latest news bits and then we will get right on it. Yay!

  • Yoga Blocks With Attitude/Crunch’s Newest Workout: Several weeks ago I attended a new class offered by Crunch gyms in New York City on behalf of Fit Bottomed Girls called B-Method created by celebrity trainer Terri Walsh that utilizes yoga blocks in an innovative way. You can read all about it here!
  • Book vs. Movie Episode 4: The insane partnership of the “Margos” continues with our latest episode of our Book vs. Movie podcast.  This week in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary we decided to delve into all things “Gump” by talking about the differences between the book and movie version of Forrest Gump by author Winston Groom.  How different are they from each other you ask? Whoo boy—they are worlds apart but each has their own unique charm. If you have some time—click on the link and take a listen. We are hoping to have them available on Stitcher and iTunes soon (fingers crossed!)

Also—please make sure to ‘like” our Facebook page. (Thank you!)

  • Pongo Power! Some of you may be aware that I am a trainer but did you know that I am NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) certified trainer? Well, yes I am and it is with great pleasure to announce that I am now training at the NASM-based only studio– Pongo Power with two locations in Brooklyn—yay!  Pongo Power was started by Elizabeth Pongo who is just about the smartest and funniest person I have met in some time. Elizabeth started with a small studio in Park Slope and has since developed a loyal clientele who wait for weeks to get an appointment with her.

I am now training at her Flatbush Avenue studio so if you are interested in a free movement assessment—be sure to reach out to me on Twitter @BrooklynFitChik!

  • Wanderlust Yoga Festival Brooklyn: Speaking of cool places in Brooklyn—Prospect Park will be a whole day of “Om” goodness with the arrival of the Wanderlust Yoga Festival taking place Saturday, September 13th with a day’s worth of yoga, meditation and music. Tickets can be purchased at http://brooklyn.wanderlustfestival.com and I plan to attend for sure so if you looking are for a “sun salutation” buddy that day—reach out to me on Twitter (again @BrooklynFitChik…)
  • Athleta Fashion Show: This past week I was lucky enough to attend the Athleta “Crush of Adrenaline” fashion show that featured real athletes, dancers and acrobats as models. Honestly, I have lived in New York City for years and have been to my fair share of runway events but this one really knocked my socks off. Read (and see) what I am talking about in this excellent feature from USA Today. Amazing stuff! My Super Amazing Fitbloggin Post! @Fitbloggin @DietsInReview @DubyaWife @LisaJohnson #fitbloggin 12

Brooklyn Fit Chick /Fitbloggin’ 2013 Highlights

The City of Portland, Giving Speeches, Chloe Sevigny’s Arm, Paleo Food Trucks and

Experiencing the Joy of  Multiple Hugs

Party night

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

I am back from Portland and slowly getting back to my “real life” as just little old me versus “Brooklyn Fit Chick”—it’s a tough transition.

When I was in Portland I felt as if I could just be myself all of the time and not hold back on giving someone a hug or being a total goofball. It was such a wonderful time and if I were a better writer I would be able to express how grateful I am each year to have a place where all of my personality quirks are fine and no one cares what size I wear or how much money I make. My goal is to bring more of this into my life. More joy, more laughs and certainly—more hugs.

First day was kind of a wash because my flights on Virgin airlines were so behind schedule that I was had to fly through Los Angeles instead of San Francisco and did not get in until almost midnight (sheesh!)

However, this turned out to be kind of a cool diversion because sitting right in front of me the way to Los Angeles was none other than actress Chloe Sevigny who was quiet and very sweet.

I took a quick picture of her delicate arm (hope she doesn’t mind!)

Chloe Sevigny

In the first class section sat Bravo’s Millionaire Matchmaker star Patty Stanger but since I have been warned that Patty is made of snakes (a nod to the fabulous Julie Klausner) I kept my distance from her.

At the hotel (The Nines which provided the best guest experience I have ever had) I was greeted by my amazing roommate Christine of Dubya Wife who had good enough manners to ignore my calls to room service for glasses of wine at midnight and my lack of any initiative for early morning workouts (hmm—are those two things related?)

Christine is my sister/friend and I am SO grateful she is in my life. Thank you Christine! (And see you at Mardis Gras 2015!)

BFC and Dubya's Wife--look out y'all!

BFC and Dubya’s Wife–look out y’all!

This was the first year at Fitbloggin where we had a fashion show (created by the insanely lovely Emmie Ho Sandford of Skinny Emmie) and it featured just about all of my favorite people in the world including Carla Birnberg Miz Fit Online,  Jennifer Mitchell of Comeback Momma and Tamara Grand of Fit Knit Chick.

On Friday I faced a big fear of mine and actually gave a speech in public—yikes! Very happy to report the Writing the Perfect Pitch workshop I co-presented along with Kymberly Williams-Evans and Alexandra Williams of http://funandfit.org/ and Jamie Walker of “Sweat Pink/Fit Approach” http://www.fitapproach.com/sweat-pink/ (they are all sublime women) went over so well—big whew!

(Also a BIG “thank you” to my friend Martin who helped me put the presentation together—I owe you big, my friend.)

It was a particular thrill for me to meet the Williams sisters as I have been following them for years but I was not smart enough to remember to take a picture with them (dammit!)

Instead, here is a photo of me looking up to Kymberly as she gave a kick ass speech.

Thanks to Fitbloggin' for the photo!

Thanks to Fitbloggin’ for the photo!

After our workshop I felt the need to go for a walk and explore the city a bit which is when I discovered how cool Portland truly is. What a wonderful city filled with smart, interesting and NICE people.

Portland 3

My mission was to try and find the food truck I read about in Paleo magazine called Cultered Caveman. Holy smokes! First of all— I got to meet the owner Joe Ban who is not only a cool guy that can cook a mean Brazilian chicken but he also looks like Matt Damon—score!! Needless to say I went back Saturday as well to try out their mini-meatballs and brussel sprouts & broccoli mash (sooooo good.)

Why yes, people do tell me I look like Matt Damon!

Friday night we had the annual “Ignite” presentation where fellow Fitbloggers talked from the heart about where they are in their lives and how they want to use their situation to help others. Two of my favorites that night were Sue of Mrs. Fatass and my roomie Christine.

Here is a photo of Sue.

Saturday morning I met up with Brandi Koskie of Diets in Review as well as her husband and daughter to check out the Saturday outdoor market in Portland. This is located by the main campus of Portland State University and I was completely blown away by the beautiful homes surrounding the market.

Here is the Simon Benson house.

Saturday afternoon (after I explored every single booth at the Portland Saturday Market downtown) I came back to the hotel to witness my first in-person flash mob. Margo of This is Not Your Momma’s Blog put the whole thing together and let me tell you it was a BIG hit with the crowd. (Yay for Margo power!)

Saturday night was filled with hugs, drinking and more hugs with a few more terrific people I want to mention before I need to lie down and just think about Fitbloggin some more.

Party night

I needed to part ways sometime when the karaoke started (never been a fan—sorry!) My flight to NYC was leaving Portland at 6:30 am so I needed some shut eye time and was fully intending on going straight to bed when Lifetime TV had to put on the Anna Nicole Smith movie. Sheesh! Am I only human, people!

So this is my last image from Portland. I think it captures the movie quite well, don’t you?

That is all for now. My next post will feature my exclusive “Fitbloggin Goodie Bag Giveaway” so y’all come back now ya hear?

Brooklyn Fit Chick Vlog Ep 40: Talking about @BexLife @CavegirlConfections @CanyonRanch & Facing Fears! 8

Brooklyn Fit Chick Vlog

Episode 40

Featuring: Overcoming Fear, Bex Life, Cavegirl Confections, Happy Feet and Prezi Presentations

"Me afraid? Ha!"

“Me afraid? Ha!”

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

How are you my lovelies? Good? Glad to hear that. This week I have been busy with getting my presentation all sorted out for my portion of the “Writing the Perfect Pitch” workshop for this year’s Fitbloggin and I must admit—I have the case of the nerves! This isn’t my first time speaking in front of people but it IS my first time using a program called Prezi and I just want to be worthy of sharing the stage with the superb Alexandra Williams and Kymberly Williams-Evans of Fun & Fit.org and the sublime Jamie Walker of Fit Approach. (Biting my nails in anticipation!)

I know it will be a great presentation and I am so excited to get a chance to help my fellow Fit Bloggers get their message out there. So I guess you can call these the “good” kind of nerves to have because it means I care and will give it my all?

However– I am having old feelings returning to my life and I do not think it has anything to do with what could be an immediate “unknown” in my life (presenting at Fitbloggin.). Rather, on a much deeper level I am incredibly anxious about the my uncertainty of my future. Don’t be alarmed—I am not sick or in dire straits (thank goodness!) but the last time I woke up every day feeling the way I do I quit my high powered job, went freelance and started teaching spin classes in my “free time.”

Hang on to your knickers everyone because I feel changes coming my way—big time!

These past few months my life has been twisting and turning in new directions with old stuff falling away and new things trying to make their way in and for some reason I have felt very “stuck.” Do you ever get like that? Like on the one hand you know you need to shake things up in your life in order to get where you need to be but are just so damn afraid of anything “new?” I really need to “unstuck” myself and embrace the wild and wooly aspects of living without fear.

Do you know about Bex of the fabulous Bex Life.com? (Of course you do—she is a goddess!) Anyhoo—Bex recently posted on her site Learn to Fall In Love With Fear and that is the motto I am going to use to get me through the next few months. I am going to learn to embrace uncertainty and anticipate good things coming into my life.

Who is with me? Let’s do this thing together dammit!

Now with that sorted out I wanted to take a moment and congratulate my good friend Marrilee Wilson of Halifax, Nova Scotia for becoming a certified yoga instructor through Moksha Yoga Halifax. (So happy you are finally making it to NYC this week!)

And now for this week’s Blog post:

  • I talk about dealing with fear about the future.
  • My ongoing love for Cavegirl Confections—seriously you people need to try this stuff. (http://www.cavegirlconfections.com/)
  • The “Happy Feet” program that is starting up soon at the Canyon Ranch spa and includes a groovy new item call Sole Engergizers.
  • My latest magazine reviews of Bicycling, Prevention, Men’s Fitness, Men’s Health and Men’s Journal.

That’s it for me this week folks. Talk to you all next week!!

Cool cat, looking for a kitty
Gonna look in every corner of the city…

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

First off—my apologies for not recording a Vlog last week for I had every expectation to do so. Back when I started Vlogging I promised myself I would be sure to record a new one each weekend no matter WHAT happened in my life. But I will be honest—it was so nice to be lazy and responsibility-free for the long holiday weekend that I just kind of slacked off. Do you forgive me? (Pinky swear to keep to my regular schedule!)

Second—I am taking a few weeks off from giveaways. Just to keep things fresh I am going to store up some really special items to offer as a giveaway from time to time. Really—it just seems more special that way, no?

Today (as I am typing/recording this post) it is hotter than a whorehouse on dime day so forgive me if I appear to be a little loopy in my Vlog post. It was recorded in one take (oh, you DON’T say!) and features both of mah precious kitties so just take it all in and enjoy!

Featured on my Vlog this week:

I am actually speaking at the totally amazing Fitbloggin conference in Portland, Oregon—whoo hoo! I will speaking with 3 phenomenal women on How to Craft the Perfect Pitch on Friday afternoon from 1:00-3:30 pm so please drop by if can! The other gals I am speaking with are:

  • Kymberly Williams-Evans and Alexandra Williams of the Fun and Fit Blog and Fun and Fit Radio podcasts (Follow them on Twitter @KymberlyFunFit @AlexandraFunFit
  • Jamie Walker who is the CEO and Cofounder of Fitapproach.com (Follow her on twitter at @fitapproach)

Saturday, July 20th at 10 pm I am joining my good friend Toni Church (of Running, Living, Loving) for the first MoonWalk New York City where we will walk a marathon around New York City wearing sparkly bra tops. Get more details (maybe you can join us!) here http://walkthewalkamerica.com/about-the-walk/event-info/  (Follow her on Twitter @tonee78)

The incredible Julie Klausner is having her first cabaret shows at Joe’s Pub (Too Gay for Brooklyn) and I think you should get a ticket and join me there!

My review of the KOSS FitSeries headphones (earbuds) for women. These were sent to me to try out from the good people at (KOSS) and they did not pay me for a review or my opinion—I simply do love my new FitBud and FitClip stereophones that were developed just for us ladies by KOSS’s female design crew and the ultimate fit chick (in my opinion) Dara Torres. What I love them about them:

  • They are very comfortable. KOSS designed them to be 33% smaller than the regular KOSS earbud so they will stay in place and be comfortable for all day wear (I personally put THAT to the test several times in the last few weeks and am impressed with their fit.)
  • They are sweat-resistant.
  • The cushions come in three different sizes so they are guaranteed to stay put.

My two beautiful cats (Sarah & Tennessee) are napping in the background so you crazy cat people can get your fix on them! (Follow me on Instagram at “margodono” for my cute kitty pics.)

Now let’s check out today’s Vlog post!
