Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

She is back and live ladies & gentleman!!  That’s right—after two weeks off I am back to my weekly Vlogs and boy did I miss all of you! There has been some major stress in my life recently both wonderful and terrible but I can honestly say my focus and attitude remains intact and I am committed to being your one-stop shop for fitness news, pop culture snark and best of all—giveaways!

This week you can enter to win an item I received from a totally rad goodie bag from the amazing Athleta fashion show.

Want to hear more? Well, let’s dive into my latest news bits and then we will get right on it. Yay!

  • Yoga Blocks With Attitude/Crunch’s Newest Workout: Several weeks ago I attended a new class offered by Crunch gyms in New York City on behalf of Fit Bottomed Girls called B-Method created by celebrity trainer Terri Walsh that utilizes yoga blocks in an innovative way. You can read all about it here!
  • Book vs. Movie Episode 4: The insane partnership of the “Margos” continues with our latest episode of our Book vs. Movie podcast.  This week in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary we decided to delve into all things “Gump” by talking about the differences between the book and movie version of Forrest Gump by author Winston Groom.  How different are they from each other you ask? Whoo boy—they are worlds apart but each has their own unique charm. If you have some time—click on the link and take a listen. We are hoping to have them available on Stitcher and iTunes soon (fingers crossed!)

Also—please make sure to ‘like” our Facebook page. (Thank you!)

  • Pongo Power! Some of you may be aware that I am a trainer but did you know that I am NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) certified trainer? Well, yes I am and it is with great pleasure to announce that I am now training at the NASM-based only studio– Pongo Power with two locations in Brooklyn—yay!  Pongo Power was started by Elizabeth Pongo who is just about the smartest and funniest person I have met in some time. Elizabeth started with a small studio in Park Slope and has since developed a loyal clientele who wait for weeks to get an appointment with her.

I am now training at her Flatbush Avenue studio so if you are interested in a free movement assessment—be sure to reach out to me on Twitter @BrooklynFitChik!

  • Wanderlust Yoga Festival Brooklyn: Speaking of cool places in Brooklyn—Prospect Park will be a whole day of “Om” goodness with the arrival of the Wanderlust Yoga Festival taking place Saturday, September 13th with a day’s worth of yoga, meditation and music. Tickets can be purchased at and I plan to attend for sure so if you looking are for a “sun salutation” buddy that day—reach out to me on Twitter (again @BrooklynFitChik…)
  • Athleta Fashion Show: This past week I was lucky enough to attend the Athleta “Crush of Adrenaline” fashion show that featured real athletes, dancers and acrobats as models. Honestly, I have lived in New York City for years and have been to my fair share of runway events but this one really knocked my socks off. Read (and see) what I am talking about in this excellent feature from USA Today. Amazing stuff! This week’s giveaway is the gym bag I received from Athleta in my goodie bag so check out the clip below to see how you can win!

Now on to this week’s Vlog and giveaway details!

{Just a note—Athleta is not sponsoring this post and I will ship directly to the winner. This giveaway is only available to folks in the Continental United States and I will contact the winner directly via e-mail.}

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

I am back to my regular Blog schedule and happy to be reporting back to all of you. (Woo hoo!) This past week has brought so much unexpected fun that I am not sure where to start. So how about I begin with how my week started, shall I?

This past Monday I woke up to find out via e-mail that Danny J. of The Sweaty Betties (I am an ambassador for them) was not only flying into NYC from Dallas that very afternoon on behalf of The Sweaty Betties business but that she was also planning on staying with me! Yikes! After doing a quick, panicked run around my apartment to make sure it was semi-hospitable for my lovely house guest (this was the first time we met in person) I decided to give up some of my long held phobias about having company over (fearing of judgment is a big deal for me) and embrace the unexpected.

Turns out Danny J. is just about as warm, friendly and fun as a person can possibly be. My cats loved her (which is the BIG test) and I was given the rare privilege to show her how to use the NYC subway system which she took to it right away. Goo Danny!  Follow her on Twitter @SweatyBeitties

While Danny was bopping around New York she brought along with her the tall, gorgeous and immeasurably cool Rebekah Borucki of Bex who came over and hung out at my place for a spell Tuesday afternoon. (Honestly—Blogging about health & fitness has given me the opportunity to meet the best people in the world!) You can (and really must) follow on Twitter @BexLife.

On Wednesday Danny & Bex set up a get together of women from all over the East Coast (#NextLevelNYC) who have either belonged to the Sweaty Betties in the past or just completed The Social Academy (which I may just have to try out when it starts up again.)

On an unbelievably perfect day we met in Madison Square Park and let me say these are just some of the coolest women I have met in my life (I keep saying that, don’t I?)

Next Level

After a quick yoga/plank competition in the park a group of us had a mighty fine time at Dos Caminos where I sat with a group of Latina women who explained to me the number of names I have mispronounced over the years (I took French—get off my back!)
