Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

I am back in the saddle of Blogging and Vlogging and have SO much to tell you all that I think I am going to burst! It’s been a hectic week here and I have much to share (including a new yoga DVD giveaway) so let’s get to it shall we?

  • My Go Fit Wobble Board Self-Challenge: For almost three years now I have been working at a standing desk which I thought would help my core but lately realize that I am still not engaging myself proprioceptively—in other words my sense of balance is hardly ever challenged and my shoulders are showing signs of not-cute stooping. YIKES! So I am challenging myself to try and balance on a Go Fit wobble board whenever I am checking e-mails at my desk. It’s been two days so far and let me tell y’all—standing on a wobble board is hard as hell! So far I have found it to be a humbling experiment but I am going to report back to you all in one month to let you know my progress with it. (Shoot–now I am making myself accountable, huh?)
  • Whoa-This is a Spin Class FAIL: I have seen this video of a super-rowdy spin class all over the place and boy do I hate to be the spoil sport here but this is NOT a regulation indoor cycling class. I have been teaching for almost 10 years now and can spot terrible form all over the room (with WAY too much stress upper back/trapezius muscles) and the moves are just not safe! Okay, yes—they are exercising and having fun. The spirit in the room is truly inspiring, but I have to say that beware of any spin class where you are out of the saddle and doing crazy moves. (And for love of all that is healthy and sane in this world—enough with the damn “push-ups” on handlebars!) I go into more detail in the Vlog below on why this video is a big bucket of NOPE in my book.
  • Students With Possible Body Dysmorphia: Fellow instructors please help me! I have a student who takes my boot camp class who is so upset about wanting to lose five pounds she wants to drop my class because I am not “intense” enough for her. Let me make this clear—if I thought I was the issue I would walk away and wish her well. But this young lady does NOT need to lose weight and I am worried she has body dysmorphia. I am not her therapist but feel a responsibility towards her. Any advice for me on how I should handle this situation? Thank you in advance!!

And now for more fun topics!

  • Book vs. Movie “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”: Up next on the Book vs. Movie podcast Margo P. (aka “She’s Nacho Mama”) and I are taking on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (the 1900 book and the 1939 classic film) with the episode to drop on iTunes and Sticher this Friday evening November 14th. Let me say this—if you think the book that was the source for movie The Wizard of Oz was sweet & fun you have NO idea how truly twisted the Frank L. Baum classic is. So hang tight for that episode and if you haven’t done so already feel free to “like” our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter. (Namaste!)
  • 5-Day Yoga DVD Giveaway: Do you promise yourself to make more time for yoga and yet can never seem to fit it into your day? (Hanging my head in shame..) Then this is the giveaway you have been waiting for because today I am giving one copy of Element: 5-Day Yoga to one lucky person this week. Check out how to win from the Vlog below and good luck to all of you. (Well—the Continental U.S. peeps as they are the only ones who can enter this giveaway!)

Now on to this week’s Vlog and giveaway details!

NEW “ELEMENT: 5 DAY YOGA” DVD OFFERS LOTS OF YOGA AND LOTS OF OPTIONS!

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – The idea of finding 90 minutes for a weekly yoga class is enough to keep many people from going at all. A little yoga every day may work better as a more achievable goal. Los Angeles based yoga and mind/body expert Ashley Turner’s newest DVD, “Element: 5 Day Yoga” is the first in the series to be made up of five easily customizable fifteen-minute sessions. They may be done one per day or strung together in any combination and order. All five segments may be played from start to finish for a thorough 75-minute practice.  “Element: 5 Day Yoga” will be available in stores and on Amazon for $14.98 (suggested retail price) beginning December 2, 2014 from Anchor Bay Entertainment. As with all Element DVDs, “5 Day Yoga” was filmed in a lush, tranquil location overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

There are 5 different 15-minute sessions to choose from:

Strength + Stamina focuses on toning the lower body with a strong series of standing poses.

Energy + Flexibility is an energizing and uplifting sequence designed to increase flexibility, release physical tension.

Core Power fires up the abdominals, hitting them from every angle.

Stretch + Restore targets the whole back side of body to unwind tightness and improve posture. This unique series systematically releases tension commonly held in the upper back, shoulders and neck. It is revitalizing and rejuvenating.

Stress Relief + Meditation is a perfect combination of standing and seated poses to flush out stress followed by a simple, potent breath meditation for calm clarity.

Each segment begins with a short warm up and ends with a brief savasana.
