The Margos Leave the Gun and Take the Cannolis in this Mob-erific Ep
We are here to make an offer you can’t refuse–a redo ofMario Puzo’sThe Godfather. The Margos originally covered this book and movies (well, really movies) three years ago when we were both fighting the flu. The result was kind of a meandering mess which we have always been embarrassed by vowed to redo one day as the material calls for nothing less than our best efforts.
This episode is a reflection of our years of fondness for the material and how far we have come along as podcasters. The 1969 novel by Puzo is a real treat to discuss and who doesn’t love talking aboutMarlon BrandoandAl Pacino? You can listen to the episode in the link below.
In this ep the Margos discuss :
The backstory of author Mario Puzo and why he felt compelled to tell the story about a mafia family even though he had no expertise on the subject.
The many, many ways the book is different from the two movies it is based on.
Why Francis Ford Coppola has such a complicated history with these films.

“Bricolage” in Brooklyn
Hello from Brooklyn!
Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!
How are you all doing today? I have a whole bunch of news & notes to get you folks today and I will not waste a minute getting it to you. So with Spring fever hitting me like a rocket let’s just get to it!
Brooklyn Fit Chick News & Notes
Book Vs Movie Podcast: My San Diego bud Margo Porras of Shes Nacho Mama’s Blog and I co-host a podcast called “Book Vs. Movie” and you can subscribe to us on iTunes with this link https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/bookvsmovies-podcast/id954110320?mt=2. After a couple of false starts (and a bout of the stomach flu) we finally got to record The Godfather episode which you can listen to right here—let me know what you think! (Get ready for our next episode–The Outsiders!)
Tips for Your First SCUBA Dive: I have no idea what the weather is like by you but it is still fah-reeezing in my part of the world and Mama needs a vacation STAT! Recently I posted this article on Tips For Your First SCUBA Dive for Fit Bottomed Girls and I hope to actually use them this year! (Do any of you enjoy SCUBA diving? What are your favorite tips?)
Ashley Judd—Internet Troll Fighter: I first became aware of Ashely Judd when she was a TV show I LOVED call Sisters (do any of y’all remember it?) Ashley is an intelligent, caring woman who when she’s not acting or doing showbizzy things prefers to travel the world on humanitarian efforts and actually try to effect positive change. Recently she was cheering on her beloved Kentucky Wildcats at the NCAA via Twitter and was subsequently received dozens of threatening tweets which she is looking to make a crime. Ashley is a feminist who cares how women are treated in our culture and wrote this amazing essay in 2012 talking about how women are devalued based on their appearance and not meeting the impossible expectations from the media. Anyhoo-she is my new hero and I am eager to see how she foghts against those horrible Internet trolls.
Need Station Recommendations: Many of you know that I am a certified fitness instructor who loves to put her all into every playlist. The stations in my city are beyond terrible so I usually listen online radio stations around the country (and world!) What are some of YOUR favorite stations? I would love to check them out so feel free to list them below in the comments!
Bricoloage in Park Slope: OMG you guys! A few weeks ago Edward and Lien Lin of The Slanted Door restaurant in San Francisco decided to pack their bags and open a new Vietnamese “gastro-pub” on Fifth Avenue and the wait to get a table has been crazy ever since. Like you have to show up at 6:00 pm for dinner or be prepared to wait an hour to sit. My good friend Laura of Vittles Vamp and me decided to check them out and my goodness—what a delight! Check out this review from the New York Daily News and if any of you ever want to meet up for a meal there in the future—I am IN!
That’s all I have for today—keep checking back for news, reviews and playlists aplenty!
(If you are reading this on a different site or a different feed than Brooklyn Fit Chick, it has been taken without permission.)
It’s winter here in Brooklyn but my spirits are bright. As some of you may know—my sweet Tuxedo cat “T” has had some behavioral issues which I have had to address. So far she is responding well to her medicine which is a big relief for me. Dealing with the chaos of her health issues has caused me to look at my life in a very direct way (which is not my favorite thing, for sure.)
I have decided that I have been inviting unrest and anxiety into my life and need to shut it down NOW. I will go into it later in the Vlog but let just say—it is never too early to begin “Spring Cleaning!”
So in today’s “News & Notes” a few things happening in my life and in the Vlog I talk about how you can enter to win a very cool DVD. Yes—you have to actually watch the Vlog in order to have a chance to win. I will keep short & sweet—promise!
Brooklyn Fit Chick News & Notes/Vlog 109:
Book Vs Movie Podcast News: Margo Porras of Shes Nacho Mama’s Blog and I are having a ball working on our podcast “Book Vs. Movie” and our next episode should be pretty amazing—The Godfather! If you have never read the book from Mario Puzo you need to right away. It is a HOOT and a holler. In the meantime would you be so kind as to like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter @bookversusmovie? Also, let us know which books & films you would like us to cover! (Merci!)
Smoking Hot Bob Harper: I am lucky to call myself a “Fit Bottomed Girl” who gets to cover special events in New York City on behalf of them (score!) A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend a workout created by BobHarper for Daily Burn.com and wrote all about it in this post right here. Let me say this—the man is as super sexy in real life as he is on TV. (Swoon!)
“The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo: Several events in my life over the past year or so have made me terribly stressed and anxious so it was with great interest to me when my good friend recommended this Marie Kondo book as a way to find more peace and serenity in my everyday life. Kondo is a “Japanese Cleaning Consultant” who advises people to surround their homes with things that bring them joy. If you look at any item in your place and it does not give you “joy” (say a pair of ill-fitting jeans or a picture of someone you no longer care about) then you need to just let it go. I took her advice quite literally by giving away over 90% of my CD/Music collection in one fell swoop. I am not working through my bedroom and throwing old socks and crummy yoga pants with absolute glee. I recommend highly you get this book!
Barre Amped “Cardio Fat Burn” Giveaway: This week I am giving away a totally amazing DVD from ace instructor Suzanne Bowen (suzannebowenfitness.com) and if you want to win you have to actually view my Vlog post below because I am giving a special instruction that you need to follow in order when you post a comment. This giveaway is not sponsored and is open to the Continental U.S. only (Sorry Canadians!)
Now on to this week’s Vlog and giveaway details:
