As y ’all may know—I rarely have sponsored posts on my Blog. I like to keep a tight rein on the content and Blogs with multiple sponsored posts tend to turn me off. I like to bring information and inspiration with a dose of fun & sass to entertain my readers. So when I actually offer one on my Blog Brooklyn Fit Chick—know that I really love the product. Like—I want to MARRY it if I could. So while I am being compensated for this post but do know that I really love this brand and can’t wait to share it with all of you!

So let’s dive right in, shall we? Today I am talking about Mightynut by Peanut Butter & Co—a powdered form of peanut butter that you can add to mixes, shakes and smoothies with delicious aplomb. Not into powder and want a real scoop of peanut butter to enjoy? No problem– just add water and stir. Voila!

As someone who (mostly) follows the Paleo/Primal lifestyle actual peanut butter is a “no go.” However—I feel comfortable with the Mightynut form as it has 85% LESS calories than traditional peanut butter and the original flavor has 6 grams of protein in each serving and only 1.5 grams of fat. Are you into flavors by the way? Well, they have four of them here including:

  • Original
  • Flax & Chia
  • Vanilla
  • Chocolate

I remember when Peanut Butter & Co opened in NYC as a sandwich shop in the 90s and the variety of flavors offered was mind boggling (Cinnamon Raison Swirl was my personal favorite!) Now that I can add my own powdered version to my healthy eating routine—I have the “happies’ all over.

For my recipe with Mightynut I combined two things I love—Peanut Butter Powder and Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Pumpkin Pancake Mix. If you so not have a Trader Joe’s in your home town you can find the mix here. You will thank me later for this!

Here are the directions:

  • One egg
  • 2 Tbsp of Butter, oil or Ghee
  • ½ cup plus two Tbsp of water
  • 1 Tbsp of Mightynut Powdered Peanut Butter
  • 1 cup Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Pancake Mix

Combine all of the ingredients until you get the consistency you most desire and make some flap jacks in the griddle—that is IT! Get ready for some serious tastiness because the combination of flavors is so fun and the meal is very easy to prepare. Win/Win people!

I know it has been ages since we have seen each other but it seems as if my desire to have a “drama-free 2015” is a little off base as my sweet cat T is ill and I have been worried about taking proper care of her.   • Fit Bottomed Girls Pop Playlist: Many of you know that I am a certified fitness instructor who loves putting a good playlist together (believe me—I sweat over every single song choice!) This past week I posted on Fit Bottomed Girls my choices for a 30-Minute Pop Intervals Playlist which I hope you will enjoy.
  • Oh Hey—I Met Bob Harper! Also this past week on behalf of Fit Bottomed Girls I went to a special event for Daily Burn and guess who I met? BOB HARPER y’all!! Bob was at the CrossFit gym in midtown Manhattan promoting his newest program “Black Fire” which I plan to try out online soon. Wee! I was lucky enough to meet Bob afterwards and ask him his best advice for box jumps and more. You will need to check in with Fit Bottomed Girls to see when my article will run (or just check back here because you know will I will for sure post it.)  In the meantime—enjoy this hot photo I took of Bob.   • Women’s Health Magazine “Next Fitness Star” Emily Schromm: This week’s giveaway (that three of you out there will be lucky enough to win, by the way) is a workout DVD from this year’s winner of the Women’s Health—former Real World alum Emily Schromm. Emily was in the Washington DC season which I did not catch so I couldn’t ask her anything about it. Instead I was lucky enough to ask her questions about health and fitness which is what I really do care about. Here it is!

Who are your fitness heroes?

My fitness heroes have always been those badass women who never took no for an answer: Michelle Akers and Mia Hamm, my soccer idols. And Jackie Joyner Kersee, one of the greatest runners of all time who never let asthma stop her. I love seeing people go after what they love to do. That is so heroic to me.

What is your quick “go to” workout when you are crunched for time?

My FAVORITE go-to hotel workout is pairing stair runs with squats! For 15 minutes, I run up the stairs, do 10 squats, jog/waddle back down. If there are no stairs, I set a timer and for one minute do burpees, one minute rest for 5-10 rounds total.  It doesn’t take long until you are in a sweat and those arms are burning.

What is your favorite post workout snack?

I love mixing my whey protein powder with coconut water immediately after a workout. It immediately starts replenishing those muscles to make them stronger, because that is what BURNS fat, and keeps me from feeling sore the next day which then means I can get after it again!

What is your next fitness goal?

My next fitness goal is to make Regionals for The CrossFit Games, to finish my book Bacon and Skinny Jeans, and to continue to help change people’s lives through proper nutrition and exercise.

It’s been over a week since my “dog bite/scratch” incident and my face is healing up very nicely. To get the full story just check out last week’s post plus I will give some details in the Vlog below. Thanks so much for all of the follow up and well wishes. You are all officially THE BEST.

Last week I also caught that nasty cold that has been hanging around Brooklyn so that was the big reason I could not film my Vlog last week. I was not embarrassed about how I look but could not promise a cough-free episode and ain’t nobody got time for that!   • Exercises the Experts Ditched: Speaking of Fit Bottomed Girls—I am proud to day I wrote this feature asking the top fitness experts on the exercises they no longer do and what they do to replace them which you can check out here.
  • New York Times’ “Race to the Front Row” Article: This past Thursday my spin class students kept saying to me did you read about “the front row” in the New York Times? It’s a feature that basically talks about the cache of being in the front row for certain fitness classes. I am not a big fan of the teacher-worship culture that exists in the fitness world. The way I see it—some people want fans and some people want students. I want students and I hate the idea people are made to feel like garbage for not being good enough to be seen in a classroom that they paid upwards of $35 to attend. But, that is just me. What do you think? I really want to know!
  • Envizualizing My Next Fitness Goal (The Box Jump!) Going back to Fit Bottomed Girls again—I told the lovely Jenn that my big fitness goal is to perform rad box jump. She said “go for it!” and “get me the post by early March” so I guess it is time to get to work! So this past weekend at one of the gyms where I work Pongo Power we celebrated our first anniversary with a party that include a station with artist Jonny Goldsetin who helps people map out their goals with a mixture of talk therapy and an original piece of artwork from Jonny. Here is his “Envizualize” version of my first box jump. I think it is pretty neat! (Thanks Jonny!)

Can you believe there are only two weeks left in the year? Where did all the time go? I have been thinking about all of the events that happened in my life in 2014 and I am grateful to embark on a new year with so many new possibilities. So what I am I excited about this week? Check out just a few things that are making me happy right now.

  • Book Vs Movie Podcast: If there is someone I am grateful for this year it is Margo Porras of She’s Nacho Mama’s Blog as she had the guts to try and start a podcast with me on a moment’s notice. Well “Book vs. Movie” is now going to a new home and we are going to be producing it ourselves (with a big amount of help from Libsyn.com) with a new logo, website—the whole kit and caboodle. Here is our first properly edited episode, coming up in January (a few short weeks away!) we will begin our first episode of the New Year talking about Joe Klein’s Primary Colors which was turned into a movie in 1998 and directed by Mike Nichols whom we sadly lost this past year. Get ready to get political!

  • Tria Hair Removal System: I will give my full review in two weeks but I so far really like my Tria hair Removal System which is showing signs of working well for me. The places where I had some funky hair issues (including my upper lip—embarrassing!) It is very convenient and does hurt at all. Do any of you remember that horrible product Nads? Where your put that goop on your arms and it hurt like hell? Not true here but as I said I am giving a full review in two weeks.) NOTE: Tria sent me the product for free but the review and opinions are my own.

  • Death Wish Coffee! Thanks to my new Fitbloggin friend (and Secret Santa!) I have a pound of Death Wish coffee to greet me every morning. This is supposed to be the “world’s strongest coffee” and my 7 am spin class tomorrow will find out if this is truly the case. (Thanks again Danielle!)
  • Space Cadets in The Classroom: I am asking my fellow instructors out there—do you have a space cadet in your classroom. Someone who just zones out and barely pays attention to anything happening in the room? My instinct is to just leave them alone. Have you ever dealt with this issue? Sometimes fellow students remark about it but I have never confronted the person about it. Is that the best thing to do? Let me know what you think!

How is everyone? I have been terribly busy lately and did not have the proper amount of time to get to my Vlog postings so please accept my apologies for slacking in that area. As I said a couple of weeks ago, life has a way of interrupting our best laid plans. Between work, the Blog, the podcast and then dealing with healthcare (insurance) issues I have not had the downtime to focus on giveaways and newsy things I wish to discuss—but today I am back! I have a few news and notes and then we will get right into this week’s giveaway.

  • Hilary Duff Fans: Up on my Blog right now I have a review of the December Health magazine with Hilary Duff and in it I described a (sort of) meeting I had with the Duffster when she was a teen queen. Well her fans have done me a solid and have been retweeting it like pros. Thanks to all of you Duff fans my numbers went through the roof. Thanks gang! You truly are SUPER fans!
  • Tria Hair Removal System: This past October I met with some of the folks from Tria who had some nifty at-home laser treatments for hair removal. I have spent an embarrassing amount of money on threading treatments and waxes which left my skin red, ruddy and did not seem to help the issue. So guess how excited I was when they picked ME to try out the Tria Hair Removal Laser Precision system on my own. Wee! I have been using it for a few weeks now and I will give a proper review next month but so far I am really impressed it.
  • My Girl Namaste Mari: One of my favorite people in the world is Mari from Nameste Mari and each Wednesday she gives you a kick ass workout. This week’s really made me sweat so I asked if she would let me post it here and she said yes! Check out this video which includes an appearance by none other than her adorable cat Zen (I love that boy.)

  • Rock n Roll Half Marathon Brooklyn Announcement: The Rock ‘n’ Roll Brooklyn Half Marathon has been announced for next October (2015) and will begin at Barclay’s Center and finish in Prospect Park. All kinds of top notch musicians and bands will be playing along the route and that may be the one thing to get me excited about a run. So this means there is a half marathon taking place right in my backyard. I can walk there and walk home. So what I am really saying is—I am thinking of signing up for this half marathon even though I am crappiest runner in the word. Are any of you out there interested in joining me? Let me know and we will get a training schedule going on. Really! I mean it. Please think about signing up with me (pretty please!)
