It’s a new week here in Brooklyn and I have so much to discuss today plus I have a new, totally rad giveaway Element: Yoga for Strength & Flexibility DVD so enough of my mindless chatter and let’s get to it, shall we?

  • Joy Bauer’s New Project: This past week I was on assignment for Fit Bottomed Girls and attended a swanky lunch at the Gramercy Park Hotel (tough life—amIright?) A group of us lucky individuals had the good fortune to meet Today’s top nutritionist Joy Bauer and let me tell y’all something—she is even more beautiful in person than you see on TV (and super nice!)  Joy is heading up a new home delivery snack service called Nourish Snacks and I will post all the details soon. (In the meantime—I am enjoying yummy and healthy snacks for the next few weeks!)

 

  • Xtend Barre Brooklyn Heights: I have a review of a new barre studio in Brooklyn up Sweat Guru.com if you are curious about checking out a new studio in this neighborhood.

 

  • FitBloggin’ Speaking Date! Just a reminder that I am speaking again at this year’s Fitbloggin convention from June 26-29 in Savannah, Georgia and will heading up a small group discussion on how to pitch brands for ambassadorships and sponsorships. It’s scheduled for 8-9 am on Saturday morning which I know seems like a rough time for some people but let me sweeten your interest by telling you that Terry Bicycles will have a special giveaway to one lucky participant. ‘ELEMENT: YOGA FOR STRENGTH & FLEXIBLITY DVD

Sooooo, is it cold enough for ya?  Honestly this winter has me rethinking this whole “living in New York” thing. It’s not often I miss California but times like this, take me back to the land of sunshine! And we have several more weeks of it to look forward to over the next several weeks. (Ugh squared!)

With the extremes in temperature my rosacea has flared up and the bottom of my face has red & scaly patches which is not exactly a look I want to show on video so this week. So with that in mind—I have giving my aching epidermal layer a rest and will put off my Vlog until later this week.

Here are a couple items before I dive right into this week’s giveaway.

  • I am so sick of this weather that this weekend I whipped out my summer playlist during my spin classes to get everyone in a better mood. In case you are interested—here it is. (You also get a picture of me in my favorite summer cover-up when I was a wee girl living in Long Island Summer Playlist.)
  • One good thing about living on the east coast in crappy weather is that you can spend an entire day catching up on your favorite shows on Netflix such as, say House of Cards Season 2. Have any of you been watching? I actually sat on my couch (more like laid down on my couch but, who cares) and watched the first five episodes of the new season in basically a haze. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

The first response I noticed came courtesy of the beautiful & talented Erika Nicole Kendall of the Blog The Black Girl’s Guide to Weight Loss. Nicely done, Erika.

If you are looking for the perfect rebuttal in addition to Erika’s than you can hardly do better than to check out the incredible Pia Glen who wrote this on XO Jane. Both managed to peel away the icky layers of pseudo self-awareness of Polachek’s personal essay which for some reason was featured in the “It Happened to Me” page—usually dominated by sad or scary stories.

Anyhoo—this story has been discussed to the nth degree so let’s just move on to a couple of fun news items and then talk about my FAB giveaway—yes?

The impossibly stunning host of Bravo’s Top Chef graces the cover of the November/December issue and she gives fitness the inside dirt on her dining career. While filming episodes of the top-rated culinary series the former model admits that all of the sampling and tasting can cause her to gain 15 pounds per season. So how does she take it off when filming is done? She follows a clean diet meaning “no meats, no sweets, no alcohol, no cheese, no fried foods, no wheat.”

Padma also talks about staying fit for her three year-old daughter and shares her own recipe for spinach and plum salad. (Nom nom!)

 

“Shortcut to a Sexy Back”

The very blonde and very shimmery Tracy Anderson (trainer of Gwyneth Paltrow among other glamazons) offers this pretty cool workout to help get your back and rear get in shape. (Be prepared to use light weights and do high reps!)

  • I talk about the difficulty of setting boundaries as an instructor.
  • My giveaway of Mika Brzezinski’s book “OBSESSED: America’s Food Addiction–And My Own” which a fast, interesting read. On TV she is cool and always in control co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe but in real life it turns out Mika has spent most of her life “obsessed” with food and exercise. She would put herself on a strict diet and exercise plan (even lecturing friends and family on what they should and shouldn’t eat) and then in private consume large quantities of food (like an entire box of Cap’n Crunch) in a quick amount of time.
