NEW Brooklyn Fit Chick Playlist: “I Lived” 50-Minute Ride 24

BROOKLYN FIT CHICK’S PLAYLIST

“I Lived” 50-Minute Ride

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

I am back to trying to crank out a new playlist every other week which is a herculean task considering how many songs are in my repertoire—but I am up for it! My goal in 2017 is to branch out and listen to new artists and new kinds of music so if any of you out there have suggestions—hit me up in the comments.

In the meantime—take a look/listen to today’s playlist as I hope it inspires you for your next workout.

  • I Lived (Arty Remix): OneRepublic

I prefer this “Arty Remix” as it has some fast-paced intervals in there which makes for a great warm-up song.

  • Hell: Tegan and Sara

This is one of my favorite songs from Tegan and Sara because it has the right amount of happy energy and a good beat. The video, however, is just a wee but pretentious IMHO.

  • Blow Me (One Last Kiss): P!nk

P!nk is one of my favorite artists and this song always makes me want to sing along even though she sings in an impossible key during the chorus!

  • Long Road to Ruin: Foo Fighters

The Foos are my “go-to” for most rides as you can probably can tell by now. Therefore, I cannot believe this is the first time Long Road to Ruin has been featured on one of my playlists. (Bad Margo!)

  • Dangerous (featuring Joywave): Big Data

I love the bouncy beat of this song and how when it plays—my students bop their heads to the bass line. (So freaking cute!)

  • 2 Heads: Coleman Hell

My mother refers to this as the ‘banjo song’ which also makes her giggle every time she hears it. So now you know—you’re welcome!

  • I Am One: Smashing Pumpkins

My inner 90s rock chick needs to be listened to from time to time and the Smashing Pumpkins reminds of those fun days.

  • Starboy: The Weeknd

I am beginning to become a big fan of The Weeknd even though the spelling of his stage name is pretty lame. (Do you think he regrets it already?)

  • Gold, Girls, Guns: Metric

This is one of the best songs I use for sprinting intervals because it has an intense feel to it without being overwhelming. Try it for yourself!

  • Crabbuckit: k-os

If you love pop & hip hop music—give Canadian k-os a listen some time. You will thank me later!

  • 24k Magic: Bruno Mars

No—I am not sick of this song yet. Bruno knows how to create a funky beat that makes folks happy.

  • Moves Like Jagger: Maroon 5

This is the song that made me like Maroon 5. I can’t help but start singing along to it.

  • Sara: Fleetwood Mac

Sometimes I just need to hear some old-school Fleetwood Mac to mellow me out after a tough workout and this song fits the job perfectly.

That’s it for me this time. I will be back soon with another batch of tunes to get you all kinds of motivated!

Until next time…

Brooklyn Fit Chick Playlist: “Ray of Light” Ride with Madonna, P!nk, Foos, Gwen Stefani & More 23

BROOKLYN FIT CHICK’S PLAYLIST

“Ray of Light” Ride (50 Minutes)

Madonna

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

I like Madonna fine. She’s great and is far braver and more hardworking than I am for sure. However, I get in trouble sometimes with my friends who are Madge super fans when I explain that some of her music is just so damn stinky. (Remember True Blue or the dreadful remake of American Pie? No. Thank You.)

I put Madonna’s music into my personal “Law of the Thirds” (The Doors and The Red Hot Chili Peppers are also in this category for me.)

{Margo’s Law of the Thirds = Artists whose creative output is 1/3 brilliant, 1/3 ordinary and 1/3 garbage.}

The Madonna songs I hate drive me insane but her top work (Like a Prayer, Take a Bow, Music and in particular Ray of Light bring indescribable joy into my life. Her high efforts are so damn amazing that I wanted to start of a playlist with my favorite version of my favorite song by Madonna to prove I am not a hater. (Really!)

The rest are a mixture of older and new tunes that make a perfect interval workout playlist (in my not so humble opinion.)

Let me know what you think of it and remember—I need song suggestions, always. So be sure to post them in the comments below!

Thanks!

  • Ray of Light: Madonna

If you do not own the William Orbit Liquid mix of this song—than get it right now and play on high volume. It will rock your world completely!

  • Mother Mary: The Foxboro Hottubs

Not familiar with Green Day’s “garage band side project?”  Well now is the perfect time to check out this video and tell me what you think. I like that it is high energy and feels very madcap.

  • Get the Party Started: P!nk

Linda Perry (of 4 Non Blondes fame) is one of the top songwriters and record producers in the business and she wrote this fun tune for P!nk.

  • Ship to Wreck: Florence + The Machine

This new song by Florence + The Machine is my new favorite for speed drills and in my regular life as well. It cooks!

  • Connected: Stereo MCs

This British band wrote some fun dance tunes back in the early 90s and this one in particular is my favorite when I want to use a heavy resistance climb.

  • Walk: Foo Fighters

I love me some Foos in my workouts and this song makes me want to workout harder and then get weepy afterwards at the same time. Pay attention to the lyrics here because they will help you get overcome any fears you may be dealing with in your life.

  • Hollaback Girl: Gwen Stefani

The “dirty’ version is more fun to play out loud in class but I will leave that decision up to you.

  • Firestarter: The Prodigy

Some people are scared off by The Prodigy’s look but I have to say when I put this on for sprints my students just book it on their bikes.

  • Monkey Tree: Mother Mother

This song is from a Canadian indie band because y’all know how much I love my Canadians!

  • Crabbuckit: K-Os

Speaking of Canadians–my favorite Canuck Hip Hop artist is K-Os and this is his best song ever.

  • Love Runs Out: OneRepublic

Love, love, love playing this in my classes. People just bop their heads to the music which amuses me greatly.

  • Ring of Fire: Social Distortion

My favorite cover of a Johnny Cash song by one of the most underrated rock bands of all time. Period.

  • The Drugs Don’t Work: The Verve

I love ending a class with a mellow rock ballad and this is 90s songwriting at its finest.

Until next time…

Brooklyn Fit Chick Playlist: “Wake Me Up” Avicii, Bruno Mars, Foos & More 2

BROOKLYN FIT CHICK’S PLAYLIST

“Wake Me Up” (50 Minutes)

Avicii

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

Sometimes I look at an old playlist and it will feature a song or two that just don’t move me anymore. Know what I mean? In fact those now dreaded songs will drive me crazy enough to scrap said playlist from my iPod Classic and start over. (Why, oh why, did I not think to buy two of them last year? They go for almost $900 now!)

So today’s playlist is completely suck-free (IMHO) and it will get you good and sweaty when you hit the gym. You’re welcome!

  • Wake Me Up: Avicii

Normally I am not a big fan of “club” or “house” music but dammit if this Swedish dreamboat knows how to write the PERFECT warmup tunes. Try this one for yourself and tell me if it doesn’t get you into the mood to move.

  • Since U Been Gone: Kelly Clarkson

Admittedly I am a little late to the party here but Kelly Clarkson is a fantastic singer and whoever picks her tunes for her—bravo!

  • All the Small Things: blink-182

Just about everyone in the room songs along when I play this in my classes and the video is sublime.

  • The Pretender: Foo Fighters

If you know me then you know that I need me some Foos on a regular basis.

  • Sunday Morning: k-os

K-os is a Canadian musician that needs to catch on here in the States. Anyhoo—this song is fun for running out of the saddle sprints.

  • Get Up: James Brown

A really complicated man (to say the least!) who was also incredibly talented, James Brown is his best and funkiest here.

  • Dancing With Myself: Billy Idol

My inner 80s kid still loves Billy Idol. LOVE!

  • Uptown Funk: Mark Ronson with Bruno Mars

Is there any better new song out there right now? It can’t be possible. And if Uptown Funk doesn’t make you want to go dancing—then you have no soul.

  • Love Interruption: Jack White

My super weird crush on Jack White continues at a feverish pace…

  • Heavy Metal Drummer: Wilco

Wilco is always on my iPod and this is my favorite song by them.

  • Starships: Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj is a bit of an individualist and this is her anthem to those of us who like to outside the mainstream.

  • The Perfect Life: Moby with Wayne Coyne

This is one of those long “majestic” climb tunes that helps to end the road on a high note.

  • Fade Into You: Mazzy Star

A really nice 90s gem that is perfect for cooling down, love Mazzy Star!

That’s all I have today folks. Let me know about some of your favorite songs and radio stations. I am always looking for good tunes.

Brooklyn Fit Chick Playlist: Canadians and Classic Rock Rule! 0

BROOKLYN FIT CHICK’S PLAYLIST

The “Canadians, Hip Hop and Classic Rock” Ride

pink-floyd-01

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

Today I am featuring my new favorite playlist which features a nice mix of old favorites and maybe a few new (to you) ones as well. Hope they inspire you on your next workout!!

  • Best Look Lately: Dear Rouge

OMG—new favorite song in the world! Dear Rouge is a Canadian duo that won a bunch of songwriting contest in the last couple of years and I think they will soon gain popularity in the States. (And my little Blog gave them their start!)

  • Ch Check it Out: Beastie Boys

Representin’ Brooklyn!!!

  • Get the Party Started: P!nk

This was written by Linda Perry of 4 Non-Blondes—bet you didn’t know that!

  • You Should Be Dancing: Bee Gees

Not only is this one of my favorite songs of all time but it serves as the soundtrack for my all-time top dance sequence on film. (So much going on here…)

  • Weapon of Choice: Fat Boy Slim

The video is quite simply fantastic. Yes folks, Christopher Walken can cut a rug!

  • In da Club: 50 Cent

(I cannot believe this guy dated Chelsea Handler!)

  • Looking at the World from the Bottom: Mike Doughty

I know most people know Mike Doughty from Soul Coughing but I am all about his solo work and this tune in particular grooves like crazy.

  • Crabbuckit: K-Os

In my continuing work to help Canadian artists get more American fans—I give you K-Os. (You’re welcome!)

  • Level: The Raconteurs

When does Jack White ever sleep? Does anyone know? How the hell can he put out so much music?

  • The Pit: Silversun Pickups

This is my “sprinting” tune where I make my class move as fast as they can for 10-15 seconds at time. It completely motivates them to haul their butts.

  • Comfortably Numb: Pink Floyd

My one big self-indulgence is playing me some kick ass classic rock and Pink Floyd kicks ass the most of all.

  • The Drugs Don’t Work: The Verve

Such a great 90s band—I miss them.

That’s all I have today folks. Let me know about some of your favorite songs and radio stations. I am always looking for good tunes.

Brooklyn Fit Chick Playlist “Wake Me Up” 50-Minute Ride Avicii, Lorde, Jack White & More 7

BROOKLYN FIT CHICK’S PLAYLIST

“Wake Me Up” (50-minute Ride)

Avicii

Avicii

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

My playlist this week features a mixture of new tunes and few classic gems for a true interval ride. The energy level goes up and down so it is perfect for Tabata and sprint drills. Enjoy!

  • Wake Me Up: Avicii

This Swedish DJ’s real name is Tim Bergling and he has possibly the most gorgeous face I have ever seen on a man or woman. Just look at those blue eyes and high cheekbones…sorry, what were we talking about?

  • Pompeii: Bastille

Quoting directly from Wikipedia here: “Lyrically, the song is inspired by the Roman town known by the same name, which met its fate with the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.”

  • All the Small Things: blink-182

The one and only blink-182 song I know. Love it.

  • Dancing With Myself: Billy Idol

I think Billy Idol is one of the sexiest rock & roll singers of all time and this song has long been a “dancing around my bedroom like a fool” staple in my life.

  • Sunday Morning: k-os

A really fun tune for running sprints.

  • Apparitions: Matthew Good Band

For the first “climb” in this set I like this one from the Matthew Good Band.

  • Dog Days Are Over: Florence & the Machine

This was one of my favorite songs from her first album and is perfect for when you want your class to work harder and give more energy.

  • My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark: Fall Out Boy

Kind of, sort of THE perfect workout tune which makes everyone helpless against its charms.

  • Love Interruption: Jack White

I have a thing for pasty white guys who croon for love.

  • Do What U Want: Lady Gaga (with R. Kelly)

Gaga was just so damn charming on the Howard Stern Show that she can do no wrong in my eyes.

  • The Perfect Life: Moby (featuring Wayne Coyne)

I am not sure if everyone is aware of this but MOBY HAS A NEW SONG YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT NOW!

  • Pump It: The Black Eyed Peas

If you want to get a group to move hard just one last time, this is what you need to play for them.

  • XO: Beyoncé

This is my absolute favorite song on her new album.

That’s all I have today folks. Let me know about some of your favorite songs and radio stations. I am always looking for good tunes.

Brooklyn Fit Chick Playlist: Vampire Weekend, Kanye West, Fatboy Slim, K-Os, Metric & More 5

BROOKLYN FIT CHICK’S PLAYLIST

“Unbelievers Ride” (50-minute Ride)

Yup, this is what rock stars look like now.

Yup, this is what rock stars look like now.

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

This week’s playlist features a variety of beats and genres that will get your heart pumping and help motivate you to work harder, run faster and spin a little longer. (Or just get out of your own head and get your butt moving!)

Do me a favor? Let me know what you think and please tell me what is on your workout playlist these days.

First up…

  • Unbelievers: Vampire Weekend

I don’t always agree with rock critics on what I “should” love but this is one of those rare Brooklyn bands that are actually as good as their press indicates. (Is that throwing shade? I don’t mean to!)

  • Let’s Fall in Love: Mother Mother

This comes from a Canadian group that I am rather fond of and think should get famous here in the States right away. (The video is a little disturbing to some people so be warned there is a message about gender violence going on.)

  • My Body: Young the Giant

I admit to not being too familiar with Young the Giant but I love this song and think it sounds great when played really loud during class.

  • Locked out of Heaven: Bruno Mars

Whenever I play this in class my students start to bop their heads to the beat. It’s so damn adorable.

  • Weapon of Choice: Fatboy Slim

A good song that has the MOST amazing video ever attached to it as well—big win for all!

  • Butterfly: Crazy Town

I feel terrible the lead singer Shifty Shellshock has had his troubles (and especially having them exploited by the fame vampire Dr. Drew) and I hope he gets another chance to come up with a cool single.

  • Synthetica: Metric

One of my favorite bands is almost always on my playlists. Because they rock so damn hard!

  • Walk Away: James Gang

It is absolutely worth going to see The Eagles because you have the chance to hear a cool Joe Walsh tune or two. (Like this one!)

  • Music: Madonna

I always thought this video was trashy (even with a hilarious Sacha Baron Cohen playing da Ali G.) but I still dig doing sprints to this one from Madonna.

  • Crabbuckit: K-Os

This is just a really fun song, that’s it.

  • Seven Nation Army: The White Stripes

Jack White is one nutty dude but I am starting to find him attractive. Hmm…

  • Stronger: Kanye West

Okay, yes—this guy has an ego the size of New Jersey and is childish. But he has some good grooves in him and this song makes me want to work out harder.

  • Wish You Were Here: Radiohead

One of my favorite songs of all time and this cover is pretty damn terrific.

That’s all I have today folks. Let me know about some of your favorite songs and radio stations. I am always looking for good tunes.

Until next time…

Brooklyn Fit Chick “Trojans” Playlist: Macklemore, Metric, Jack White, Kanye West, Foos & More 12

BROOKLYN FIT CHICK’S WORKOUT PLAYLIST

“Trojans” Playlist 50-Minute Ride

(This is for my friend Jennifer Meyer)

(This is for my friend Jennifer Meyer)

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

I am trying to get better about putting up my playlists as people seem to enjoy them so let us not dilly dally—okay? Today’s ride features a few of my current favorite songs plus a 7- minute climb using an eerie Dave Matthews number from the 90s.

Do I have you intrigued? Then let’s get to it!

  • Trojans: Atlas Genius

I know absolutely nothing about this band but this song caught my attention right away and I knew I could start a ride with it.

  • Desire: U2

Desire is the prefect “second” song but it begins with a crashing guitar sound and delivers the perfect, driving beat for 3 minutes.

  • Youth Without Youth: Metric

Metric came to NYC last year and I could not get tickets—grrrrr!

  • Keep the Car Running: Arcade Fire

This might be my favorite song by them but all of their music is pretty great.

  • Thrift Shop: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

The version full of cursing makes my heart soar. Most favorite new song on the list by far!

  • Elephant: Tame Impala

I like doing out of the saddle climbing with this weird little ditty.

  • Gold Digger: Kanye West

Please get the clean version if you play it in class! It is still plenty filthy, don’t worry!

  • Troublemaker: Weezer

I think the Red album is my favorite from them.

  • The Pretender: Foo Fighters

The Foos are the best with making super-fast songs that make everyone work their asses off with sprinting.

  • Crabbuckit: K-OS

Please come back to NYC K-OS!!

  • I’m Shakin: Jack White

I am starting to become sexually attracted to Jack White. What does that say about me?

  • Don’t Drink the Water: Dave Matthews Band

This song is perfect for a long, slow climb and has kind of a spooky sound.

  • Call Me Maybe: Carly Rae Jepsen

It only took me about 10 months but I think I get why this tune is so popular. Yay me!

  • Madness: Muse

Everyone tells me that Muse is the ultimate live band. What do you think?

So what do you think of my list? Remember to send me your favorite tunes in the comments below.

Until next time…
