“Thank You for Smoking”

The 1994 Satirical Novel by Christopher Buckley Vs. Jason Reitman’s Directorial Debut

The Margos get all satirical in this smokey ep talking about all things talking about “Thank You for Smoking.” (Well–while Margo P. was fighting laryngitis!)

In this ep they discuss:

  • The background of author Christopher Buckley
  • The differences between the 1994 novel & the 2006 film
  • Our favorite performances
  • The Margos personal experiences with smoking
  • Margo P’s illness
  • The amazing Rob Lowe and Aaron Eckhart
  • Katie Holmes’ and Aaron Eckhart’s love scene and if Tom Cruise enforced some editing
  • The LACK of smoking in the film
  • How much damn smoking that used to be a part of our world.

Audio Clips:

  • Tex Williams: Smoke! Smoke! Smoke!
  • The “MOD Squad” Aaron Eckhart, Maria Bello and David Koechner
  • “Father and Son” Aaron Eckhart and Cameron Bright
  • “Jeff Megall Scene” Rob Lowe, Aaron Eckhart and Adam Brody

Brooklyn Fit Chick September News: I Need Your Help with Music Suggestions 21

Brooklyn Fit Chick News & Notes September 2016

Big News with Fit Bottomed Girls Podcast—Which Health, Fitness, Wellness Stars Do YOU Want Us to Interview?

I Need Help with My Playlists (Send me your songs!)

Urban Hoodie

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

I have been busy with so many work & life things lately that I have fallen behind with my Blogging-sorry about that! I am still here but am perfecting my digital skills creating something that has become a passion for me—podcasting.

Many of you know that I co-host a podcast with my friend Margo of She’s Nacho Mamas Blog that has now going into its third season–Book Vs Movie.

I am also the NYC contributor for Fit Bottomed Girls so I convinced them to let me produce and co-host their own podcast which is seriously taking off! Some of the guests we have lined up include:

  • Bob Harper
  • Jeanette Jenkins
  • Tony Horton
  • Kathy Smith (SQUEE!!)

We may just move to a weekly show if we keep up with this pace and downloads so my question to you today is—what guest would you like us to get on the show? Or do you have a topic you wish we would cover? Let me know in the comments below. We really want to know what you want to fill into your earholes!

Also, I am in need of your help in another area of my life—music! I love to create playlists for my classes and recently featured this one with Beyoncé and Coldplay that got some great comments. My problem is that I need more ideas for songs. My repertoire is getting dry and I feel like I need to mix things up more. So I am requesting if you could also take the time and write in the comments below:

  • Your favorite workout tunes and what you use them for (running, sprints, climb, Zumba—whatever!)
  • A “one hit wonder” song that makes you smile and not go “ICK!” I have been commissioned to write one and my instinct is to go all 90s. Need some variety in my mix!

That’s it for me this time. Let me know what you are up to and I will be back with my usual playlist and activities soon. Happy Autumn!

Brooklyn Fit Chick News & Notes: New Fit Bottomed Girls Podcast and More! 21

Brooklyn Fit Chick News & Notes Summer 2016:

The Launch of the Fit Bottomed Girls Podcast!

Best Core Workouts for Summer Sports and More!

Plus: Book Vs Movie 2nd Anniversary!

 brooklynfitnesschickBIKE_0701

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

I can’t believe how long it has been since I put up a new blog post but life got a little crazy, busy on the work side. The good news—I am working on a project I pitched to the Fit Bottomed Girls and we are really taking off with it!

A little over two months ago I pitched the idea of producing and co-hosting a podcast for Fit Bottomed Girls and now we are officially a thing which pleases me to no end. It’s been a labor of love that has been taking up a great deal of my time this summer but I must say I am really proud of what we have created to far.

If you want to get more details, check out:

7 Reasons You Need to Subscribe to our Podcast where we go into why we decided to go down this new digital pathway.

For our first episode we spoke to Rebekah “Bex Life” Borucki and discussed with the meditation maven about how to find time  to meditate within a busy life and also what to do when you are feeling like you are in a funk. She was equal parts wise and hilarious—just as you picture her to be!

In upcoming shows, we will have USA Beach Volleyball champ April Ross (!), Shape magazine editor-in-chief Elizabeth Goodman Artis, yoga expert Kristin McGee,  dietitian Frances Largeman-Roth and Refinery 29’s Kelsey Miller (“The Anti-Diet Project.”)

Would love any feedback you have for us and/or if you have any suggestions for guests you want to hear on our new show—let me know in the comments below!

Fit Bottomed Girls Hits:

As some of you know—I am a NYC contributor for Fit Bottomed Girls as well as their new podcast diva and these are some of my favorite stories I have worked on recently for them.

  • If you have ever wondered about taking a DNA test to find out your ancestry plus whatever details your DNA has to do with your health—then check out this piece where I tried three different DNA tests and the results that came in!
  • Do you have any old fitness trackers that you no longer need? Well then you can print out a form linked within this article and help out Recycle Health which is a fabulous non-profit helping to give folks who really need a tracker but perhaps can’t afford one. They will be monitored and researched by the good folks at Tufts University. Win/Win!
  • Okay, so this might be a little dated by now but in June I posted my favorite workout songs of 2016 so far. Some fun tracks are listed if you are looking for inspiration for your playlists.
  • Finally, in this feature I spoke with SUP Yoga expert Chelsea Roller of West Marine to talk about the best core moves you can do to prep for summer water sports such as surfing, kayaking, SUP yoga and water skiing. Check that out here!

Finally, I just wanted to mention that my friend Margo of She’s Nacho Mamas Blog and me just celebrated the two-year anniversary of our podcast with a brand new Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil episode. This is a “do-over” from our first few shows which were not up to our current standards. If you want to check it out—then here you go!

That’s it for me this time. Enjoy the rest of your summer and I will be back with new playlist and more very soon. Promise!

Brooklyn Fit Chick News & Notes: “Book Vs Movie” Field of Dreams, Coach Nicole at Home and Women’s Health “Next Fitness Star” 15

Brooklyn Fit Chick News & Notes: Week of July 10th Edition

“Book vs Movie” Podcast News (Field of Dreams & Stand By Me)

“Coach Nicole” Flies Solo on Her New Venture

Plus: Women’s Health Magazine’s “Next Fitness Star” Competition

brooklynfitnesschickBIKE_0701

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

Can you believe the summer is halfway over? I have been busier than the proverbial bee these last few months with family obligations, work (day job) and teaching all of my classes that my personal wellness has suffered a bit. I am trying to get back in the saddle diet (healthy eating) and getting more rest at night. The box jumps and sprints will have to wait until I get back to my base level of fitness. Stress can truly be a silent killer and my goal is to learn how to manage it better and not let my health suffer.

Okay—let’s get back to the fun. Today I want to talk about our latest podcast news, a fitness instructor you MUST follow on Twitter and Women’s Health magazine’s newest competition to find the “Next Fitness Star!”

Brooklyn Fit Chick News & Notes:

Book Vs Movie Podcast News: Margo Porras of Shes Nacho Mama’s Blog co-host the “Book Vs. Movie” podcast (that you can subscribe to via iTunes at this link) recorded our Field of Dreams episode last week and think it’s one of our best episodes yet.  (Did you know the Kevin Costner classic was a book first? It was called Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella and boy did they make some changes between them!)

You can listen to the link below and if you have harbored a crush on actor Dwier Brown who played Ray’s dad (swoon!) then you will appreciate how excited I got when he responded to our shout-out on Twitter! (Yippee!) You can follow him on Twitter as well @dwierbrown and he also has a website www.dwierbrown.com.

With our next episode we are going back to the 1950s with Stand By Me from Stephen King (also known as the novella The Body)

We are planning our next few episodes so if there are any books & movies you want us to cover—feel free to comment below!

Coach Nicole at Home: Many moons ago when I started out as a fitness instructor I would constantly scour clips on You Tube to get ideas on how to teach an actual class. My first love was teaching spin and it seems daunting to me to try any other kind of classes. Well Coach Nicole Nichols of Spark People pretty much saved my life! The first clip I ever memorized was her 15-Minute Abs Workout which I repeated basically word for word for my own classes. (Truth!)

Well Coach Nicole is on to her next venture and will soon be hosting workouts on her very own website which goes live on August 1st. In the meantime, be sure to like her Facebook page and follow her on Twitter here. (love you Coach Nicole!

Brooklyn Fit Chick Vlog: Episode #91

“Book vs. Movie” Podcast Ep 1 (&2!), “Blonde Vegan” Goes Rogue, Venus Williams and The Greatest Dance Clip of the Week

Plus: Jennifer Cohen Strong is the New Skinny Preview

Giveaway arriving soon!

Giveaway arriving soon!

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!

How are you all doing today? I have so much news to talk about today that I can hardly contain myself so I will just dive right in with the highlights and then preview for my next giveaway—Strong is the New Skinny by awesome trainer Jennifer Cohen. Wee!

  • Book vs. Movie Episode 1: So excited to announce that Margo of She’s Nacho Mama Podcast and I have launched our first podcast Book vs Movie. Last Friday we aired our first episode talking about both the film & movie version of Midnight In the Garden of Good & Evil (Kevin Spacey played him in the utterly forgettable Clint Eastwood film.)  We had a total blast and lost all track of time so we are recording part 2 this very week. Our hope is to get a few episodes in the can so we can have them available in iTunes. If you are our friend—please listen to us online at Blog talk radio in the meantime and please ‘like” our Facebook page. Check out my Vlog below to find out our next book/movie choice. (Hint, hint—get your little black dress ready for fun!)

  • The Blonde Vegan Changes Her Tune: I am NOT a vegan and happily get my protein from sustainable responsible meat vendors but I also follow a great many Vegan people on Facebook & Twitter as they are usually animal lovers and I am a fan of the furry critters.  Anyhoo—I was fascinated by the following post by Blogger Jordan of The Blonde Vegan who is absconding from the meat-free/pro-juicer lifestyle as it is causing her to suffer from Orthorexia which is a type of eating disorder where a person has an obsession with being “healthy.” To the point that they are not living happiest lives. I am not doing her justice (sorry Jordan!) please just read her post!

  • Eleven by Venus: So last week I had a very cool thing happen where I got to meet many of my fellow ambassadors for Venus Williams’ fashion/fitness line EleVen by Venus via a conference call and guess who was on the line with us—VENUS!!! I was so gaga when she greeted us that I squealed like a child. We had a special advanced look at their upcoming winter and spring collections and let’s just say my bank account is going to take a hit from it!

  • Jennifer Cohen Skinny is the New Strong Giveaway: Check out the Vlog below to get a gander at this week’s giveaway which will go live tomorrow. Skinny is the New Strong is a fitness book from rock-star trainer Jennifer Cohen and it does not even go on sale until September but you can win a copy from me—stay tuned for the details coming tomorrow.

  • The Greatest Dance Video of the Week:  I don’t know about you guys but I love me some Buzzfeed.com to check out the latest silly clips on the Internet that I should nto miss and this one featuring a “90s” tribute dancer is one of the best things I have seen in a long time. Pump up the jams people!!

Now on to this week’s Vlog!

Got that? So tomorrow I will post the full details of the book giveaway—good luck! Thanks so much for checking back here!

Until next time…
