Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!
Um, Where Did the Month Go?
I know I say this every few weeks but wow, where on earth does the time go? It’s been almost 6 weeks since I put down some news and notes on this here Blog. Why so long?
Yes, I have been busy which is a good thing. But I realized that on May 16th it was the first anniversary after losing Dad.
It’s been a tough year for sure and we all miss him terribly. I am still wondering if this is a horrible dream sometimes.
However, I have been lucky to have some of the greatest group of friends who have given me love and support at this difficult time. All I can say to them is “thank you.” And I hope any of you reading this post are as lucky as I am to have the support.
If you are ever unsure on what to say when someone experiences a loss and figure it is best to not say anything at all (in order to avoid saying the “wrong” thing)—let me just tell you one thing. All you ever have to say is “I am sorry for your loss.” Trust me—it does the job fine.
My family is in all kinds of states right now as to how they are handling the news one year later. Mom has decided to go a dream vacation to France and I couldn’t be happier for her. (Wish I could have tagged along, but oh well.)
Anyway—I had other things happen this past month so let us get to it, shall we?
Cell Phone Abusers
Do any of you have problems with students using cell phones in class? I feel as if it gets worse every year and I am not sure how to handle it any more. We have signs all over the place and I make an announcement at the beginning of class and yet I still get the occasional mobile phone scofflaw. How do you all handle this or how does your gym handle this if you are not an instructor?
Fit Bottomed Girls Hits:
As some of you know—I am a NYC contributor for the popular fitness Blog Fit Bottomed Girls and this month I have had some articles featured there including:
- An awesome Tabata workout from Nikki Metzger, Women’s Health Magazine Next Fitness Star who gave me her favorite kick-butt routine.
- I was lucky enough to meet two Olympians who will compete at the Summer Olympics—Gabby Douglas and Dana Vollmer! I wrote this piece for Fit Bottomed Mamas and each brought their moms to talk about how their maternal guidance helped them to become ace competitors. Both were just about as nice as you can imagine.
Next month I will post yet another interview I recently had with an Olympian! (Hint—she plays soccer.)
Whew–that’s it for me today! I will be back soon with magazine reviews, playlists, reviews and so much more. Happy soon-to-be Summer everyone!

Nice to see you back! Condolences for the loss of your father.
The cell phone thing has to be a pain while trying to conduct a class. We don’t have any issues with it in my fitness classes that I take though sometimes a phone will ring during yoga, lol!
IN a yoga class? Sheesh!
Glad to see you back on the blog. So sorry that you are having such a tough time. I recall when I lost my Dad that I was like a zombie for a good couple of years after. Time will take care of some of that and I am sure you have wonderful memories to comfort you at the worst times. Great that your Mom is getting away on a nice vacation.
🙂
Thank you Elle! I appreciate your kind words. 🙂
welcome back! sorry to hear about your dad. Your mom’s trip to France sounds amazing!! what a great idea. Cell phone abusers annoy me. There is one class I take where this girl actually charges it in the middle of the gym (there’s an outlet on a column) and will occasionally check it. I’ve never seen the instructor say anything but just, wow.
I guess some people aren’t bothered by it? It drives me nuts. Especially in spin.
Welcome back!
I will admit to checking (and texting) on my phone last night because the instructor of the class I was taking was honestly the WORST. And I wasn’t the only one on my phone. Yikes!
you wouldn’t get away with that in my class, LOL!
Don’t even get me started on cell phones. As a high school teacher, this is an ongoing issue. I actually had to start using a “Cell Phone Hotel” this year that my students have to check their phones into as they enter the classroom. Of course, there are plenty of students who think they’re above needing to use it and then try to use their phones during class. Not only is it rude, but its a huge disruption to the entire class.
The entitlement is real!!!
I’m so sorry about your father…you sound like you’re in great spirits so I’m sure it will continue to get a little easier.
Can I express how insanely jealous I am that you met Gabby Douglas?!
Thank you. And, Gabby is a total sweetheart!
